In These Ordinary Days

I often think about what it is like to live an ordinary life in extraordinary times.

There is so much happening around and so much uncertainty about the future; our sense of everything that was once familiar is shifting beneath us. Yet our lives continue within it all. We make coffee. We go to work. We grieve people we love. We notice the light through the trees. We wonder what matters and whether the lives we are living have meaning.

Perhaps that is where I want to begin.

In These Ordinary Days is a place for essays, poetry, and reflections on life within a changing world. I expect to write about spirituality, nature, culture, grief, creativity, and the questions that are arising. I have few answers.

I am less interested in explaining the world (as if I could) than in paying attention to it.

I don't expect to have many answers. I hope instead to look more closely at the lives we live, the world we share, and the meaning we make within our brief time in it.
